Roy Rankin, of Wichita, Kansas, passed from this life on January 27, 2024. Roy was born in 1942 in Prairie Grove, Arkansas to Glen and Cleo Rankin. When Roy was an infant, his family relocated to Wichita, Kansas. He attended Wichita public schools, graduating from East High School. In 1961 Roy married Carolyn Crumb. They had four children.
In 1964 Roy went to work for Cessna Aircraft. He worked there for 37 years, working his way up from the assembly line to upper management.
Roy was a loving caregiver, tenderly caring for his wife, Carolyn, as she battled cancer. In 1998 after 38 years of marriage, Carolyn passed away. Roy later married Eleanor Oakley. They were married for 21 years. He once again filled the role of caregiver, graciously tending to Eleanor.
Roy was a life-long member of the Emporia Avenue Church of Christ in Wichita, where he served as a deacon and elder. He truly followed the two greatest commands. He loved God with all his heart, soul, and mind and he loved his neighbor as himself.
He was a man who gave mightily without expecting anything in return. He loved God, his family, and his fellow man, in that order. He will be missed.
Roy is survived by 3 brothers; Dwayne Rankin (Lea Mae) of Minnesota, Bill Rankin of Florida, Larry Rankin (Connie) of Oklahoma. 2 sons, Darrell (Freda) of Haven, KS and Roger (Lori) of Wichita; 2 daughters, Julie Welch (Rayford) of Rockville, MD and Lori Beckstrom (Don) of Wichita; 11 grandchildren: Christopher Rankin, David Rankin, Trevor Rankin, Kenny Rankin, Shelly Welch, Ashley Rankin, Jessica Rankin, Kyle Beckstrom, Michael Welch, Cameron Rankin, Kaylee Beckstrom; 8 great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
