Theresa Kay Carter was born to Bernice and Wilbur P. Johnson on February 12, 1952, in Wichita, Kansas. She attended Isley and Mueller for elementary school. She then attended Brooks Magnet for middle school. She graduated from East High School and Wichita State University. She enjoyed playing sports, cooking and sewing. Theresa had one daughter, Lanna Smith, and later in life she married Lanna's father, Paul Smith-Carter. Theresa accepted Christ at Strangers Rest Baptist Church during summer bible school under the leadership of Missionary Synder, Mrs. Curtis and Mrs. Willie Webb. During her high school years, she enjoyed brother Stanley Buckley's Sunday school class. She started her spiritual training at St. Luke Church COGIC. As a young adult, she rededicated her life at Strangers Rest Under Elder Scott. Under her mothers influence she joined St. Luke COGIC. Theresas spiritual journey led her to Revival Center, St. Mark United Methodist and World Harvest. Her final destination was Greater Pentecostal Church COGIC under Auxiliary Bishop Herman Hicks. Theresa was involved in the community. She served on the city council, District 1. She was also on the USD 259 school board. She retired from Raytheon Aircraft Company as a senior buyer. Theresa was a devoted grandmother and mother. She enjoyed going to her grandson's flag football games and little league games. She enjoyed watching sports, especially tennis and football. She was a big Kansas City Chief fan. In her later years she enjoyed playing Canasta on the computer, watching her Sunday services via internet and spending time with her grandchildren and daughter. Theresa leaves behind many cherished memories. She is survived by her daughter, Lanna Smith; grandchildren, Josiah Smith, Bryant Roberts, Bry'Ana Roberts; brother, Richard Johnson; sister, Esther Baldwin (Benjamin); sister-in-law, Yvonne Johnson and brother in Christ, Clinton Farris and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur P. and Bernice Johnson; grandson, Landon Roberts; sisters, Mae T. Hoy, Oretha Anderson, Irene Harris and sister-in-law, Patty Johnson; brothers, Jr. Johnson, Raymond Johnson, Steve Wayne Johnson; nieces, Collette Horner, Lucinda Anderson and nephews, Kevin Johnson and Dewayne Harris.
