Roy D. Reid, 86, of Wichita Falls, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2025.
The family will receive friends at a visitation from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 22nd at Lunn's. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in Lunn's Chapel with Rev. Lewis Howard officiating. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery in Iowa Park under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.
A son of the late Ola Orene (Osborn) and Woodrow Wilson Reid, Roy was born on Mother's Day, May 12, 1938, in Lawn, Texas. He had a brother, Bennie Dale Reid. He was a graduate of Abilene High School. Roy served as the trainer for the 1954 Abilene Eagles State Champions-Team of the Century winning 49 games from 1954-1957. He had the privilege of wrapping the ankles of Dandy Don Meredith and numerous other football heroes.
Roy was an SMU graduate. He worked in the insurance business for 55 years, starting with Employers Insurance of Texas as an auditor in Midland before moving to Wichita Falls. He retired from Boley Featherston.
Roy and Judy Callaway Franklin were married on November 25, 1983, and would have celebrated 42 years of marriage this fall. They were a loving couple with their blended family. They were members of First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls.
Roy loved horses. He owned a small farm near Kamay, raising horses-quarter, thoroughbreds and paints. He enjoyed watching the new foals playing in the pasture.
The Reid family had reunions in various places, this year 72 years of continuous get-togethers. From a large Reid family, cousins are still having the best time reminiscing and meeting in June.
Roy is survived by his wife, Judy Reid; their children, Jeff Franklin and wife Ronda and their children, Sam, Claire and Kate; Renee Reid Cue and her husband, Tom and their children, Brett Wilson Cue and his wife, Anna; and Brittney Renee Cue; Russell Reid and his wife Stephanie and their daughter, Rachel Reid; Clay Ross and wife Rachel and son Brett Ross; Rebekah Reid Wamsley and her husband, Cameron and their son Ryan David Reid; and looking forward to the his 1st great-grandchild in May and hoping it could be born on his birthday; and so many cousins, nieces, nephews, too numerous to count.
Thanks to Hospice of Wichita Falls for their love, support and care given to Roy and the family. Hospice is so dear to the Reid family. We cannot give enough praise to them. They are angels on earth. The nursing staff is Amazing!
