Roy Alan Siefert, age 71, of Middlebury Center, PA, passed away on Thursday,
April 17, 2025, at his home. He was born on April 8,1954 in Abington, PA, a son
of Leonard Frederick and Matilda Marjorie (Gibson) Siefert. Roy grew up in Hartsville, Bucks County.
Roy was an outdoorsman, an environmentalist, and conservationist, and he enjoyed being with nature. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Roy graduated from Central Bucks East High School and earned the B.S. in Forest Science from Penn State University in 1976. He was a member of Tau Phi Delta Fraternity, where he secured many life-long friends. Roy served as vice president of the Fraternity during his senior year. In 2014, Roy won the prestigious Outstanding Alumni Award from Penn State.
Roy was the District Forester of the Tioga State Forest. Roy also often led crews to fight western wildland fires. He enjoyed his work and earned numerous honors and awards in his field. Roy loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed many fishing trips to The Outer Banks of North Carolina, and the Florida Keys.
Roy was a member of the Society of American Foresters and had served that organization as chairman of the Pennsylvania Division. Roy was an active member of the Pennsylvania Forestry Association, including a term as president. He was a charter member of the Pennsylvania Council of Professional Foresters. Roy served as a Board Member for the Pennsylvania Environmental Defense Foundation. Roy was also a long-time member of the Northcentral Pennsylvania Conservancy and was serving on their Board of Directors at the time of his death. He was also a member of the Tioga Woodland Owners Association, the Pine Creek Watershed Council, as well as several other community organizations.
As one of his friends wrote, "Roy was a quiet, private man of few words, but great accomplishment. He always greeted you with a kind smile and firm handshake and was interested in everyone's perspective."
Roy is survived by his brothers, Leonard William Siefert of Lansing, MI, Wayne Anthony Siefert of New Hope, PA, and Alan Bruce Siefert of Frederick, MD; nieces and nephews, Rachael (Siefert) Mierzwa, Amanda (Siefert) Lewis, Ryan Siefert, Nicole (Siefert) Parker, and Michael Siefert. Roy also is survived by 12 great nieces and nephews, with whom he enjoyed spending time with. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Frank Joseph Siefert; and a nephew, Damon Jorge Siefert.
