Roy Lynn Smith, age 84, of Springfield, passed away Monday, October 13, 2025, at his home. Graveside services will be conducted at 2pm Monday, October 20th in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Pastor Sam Corley officiating.
Mr. Smith was born November 25, 1940, in Memphis, to the late Leon Smith and the late Dorothy Boothe Smith. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and an Industrial Engineer. Roy was an expert at smoking pork shoulders and making his amazing homemade BBQ sauce. He loved fishing, baseball, babies and puppies. He was an accomplished contractor and was known for being exact, honest and dependable. He was a good friend, husband, father and grandfather. He always tried to do what was right and to make amends to anyone he disappointed. He will be loved and remembered by family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Smith Boor; and his step-mother, Jozelle Hamilton Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Freda Smith; daughters, Teresa (Alan) Traut, Lisa Wilson, and Hope Jackson; son, David (Rachelle) Bing; 6 grandchildren, Tyler (Cara) Wilson, Allison Timaji, Adam (Annalise) Timaji, Madeline Jackson, Brooks Jackson, and Abby Jackson; 4 great grandchildren; brother, Michael (Joan) Smith; brother-in-law, Brian Boor; and several nieces and nephews.
Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield is in charge of these arrangements.
