Roy L Springfield, 82, of Pendleton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at his home in Pendleton following an extended illness. 

He was born on December 19, 1941, in Thayer, Missouri to Albert and Alta (Cousins) Springfield. 

Roy graduated from Plant City High School in Plant City, Florida. He served his country proudly in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963 where he was a Green Beret and was a member of the Elite Special Forces, where he completed his tour of duty in Vietnam and Laos.

He had been a police officer with the Anderson Police Department for 28 years and had worked in Adult Protection Service for the state of Indiana for 14 years.

He founded the PAL Club in Anderson in 1973, and supported many youth during the years. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends. 

Roy is survived by his wife, Janet K. (Mercer), whom he married on June 19, 1999; three children, Tammy (husband, Rob) Passmore of Noblesville, Terri (husband, Greg) Douglas of Pendleton and Todd (wife, Amanda) Springfield of Celina, Ohio; three stepdaughters, Ruth Maestre of Florida, Jennifer (husband, Troy) Spiker of Pendleton and Rachel (husband, Ben) Hughes of Brownsburg; a sister, Louise Wright; eighteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and two on the way; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Joseph Norris; two brothers; and two sisters..

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Bozell Funeral Home Lapel Chapel, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel, Indiana 46051 with Rev. Scott Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Grovelawn Cemetery in Pendleton where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Daleville American Legion.

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, June 24, 2024, at the funeral home. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 606, Lapel, Indiana 46051.
