Gene Sweeney

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Gene Sweeney, who left us on July 14, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on September 3, 1939, in Johnson City, TN, Gene lived a life full of kindness, laughter, and hard work.

Gene was a dedicated auto mechanic, known for his skill and passion for cars. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force, a testament to his commitment to his country. After his service, he returned to East Tennessee. Where he was an owner and operator of Sweeney's Auto Parts since 1957. Gene's warm, welcoming nature drew people to him, and he made lasting friendships wherever he went.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mona Sweeney; his loving children: sons David Sweeney (Cindy), Bob Berry (Vickie), Jeff Bennett (Angie), daughters Michelle Bright (Rick), and Angel White. Grandchildren Emilee Berry, Heather Vaughn, Logan Thomas (Lucas), Lacy Sparks (Phil), Matthew Pierce, Levi White, Josh Sweeney; Great Grandchildren Brody Thomas, Aria Sparks, Lincoln Pierce, and Saylor Thomas; Special Nieces and Nephews Suzi Wallace, David Honeycutt, Buddy Dudley, Spanky Honeycutt, and Janet Honeycutt. He cherished each moment spent with his family, providing guidance, support, and plenty of love.

Gene was preceded in death by daughter Becky Berry, and son-in-law Stanley White. And Parents Cecil Sweeney, and Willie Miller Sweeney.

A Committal service for Gene's life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday July 18, 2025, at Mountain Home National Cemetery, where he will receive Air Force Military Honors. The family invites friends and loved ones to gather and share fond memories of Gene, whose spirit will continue to shine in the hearts of those he touched.

As we prepare to pay tribute to Gene's life and legacy, we take comfort in knowing that his love will always be with us. We hope to see all who knew him come together to honor a remarkable man who truly lived life to the fullest.
