Roy Ernest Unger, 83, passed away on March 24, 2025 in Lee's Summit, MO. Roy was born on November 19, 1941 to Ernest and Mamie (Garver) Unger.
Raised on a farm west of Oberlin, Roy graduated from Decatur Community High School with the class of 1959. He then attended Fort Hays State University and graduated with two degrees. During this time, he married his former wife Karol Cameron. They were blessed with five children. Roy worked for the ASCS Office after graduation. Soon he switched careers and became a farmer and rancher for most of his life. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. Roy was a man of many talents from sewing a patch on his jeans to repairing vehicles or as he called it "tinkering".
In 1993, Roy met Jane Reid and they later married. He introduced his love of the country life to her. She was soon gathering eggs and checking on lambs. Roy and Jane both had the gift to start up conversations with anyone they met.
Surviving family include his son: Kevin (Jeanie) of Oberlin, KS; daughters: Kimberly Ginther (Kelly) of Russell, KS, Kristy Beagle (Brian) of Pleasant Hill, MO, Kayla Unger of Oberlin, KS, Kenda Whittingham of Manhattan, KS; grandchildren: Katelyn Garcia, Rena Unger, both of Colorado Springs, CO, Dalton Ginther (Danielle) of Olathe, KS, Danika Drake (Andrew) of Lyons, KS, Tanner Beagle (Marissa) of Sherman, TX, Blake Beagle of Sanford, FL, Ethan Beagle of Howe, TX, Andrew Whittingham II, of Columbus GA, Kandyce Whittingham of Boston, MA and six great grandchildren.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jane Unger, and grandson Jimmy Garcia.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Faith Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 1:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, March 28th with family receiving guests from 6:00-7:00 PM. Burial will be in the Oberlin Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made out to Decatur Amusement Authority. Condolences can be left at www.plumergobber.com
