Roy Watts Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 23, 2013.
Roy Frederick Watts, 84, of Templeton died on February 23rd, 2013 at French Hospital in San Luis Obispo. He was born on December 11th, 1928 in West Pullman, IL, to Clement and Hazel Watts, and was the youngest of three children. Roy is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis; and his five children, Tom, Carl (Donna), Clay (Mary Lou), Robin, and Dawn. Roy grew up in Illinois, and graduated from the University of Illinois, with a degree Mechanical Engineering. In 1950, Roy married Phyllis Ferguson. While he and Phyllis raised their family in Lockport, IL, Roy worked as a Mechanical Engineer for ACME Steel, and later for the Andrew Corporation. His career took him around the world, as his expertise was required overseas on many of Andrew Corporation's critical engagements. After many years of dedication to his work, Roy retired early at the age of 55. He and Phyllis moved to California to enjoy their retirement close to their adult children. At their ranch in Templeton, Roy pursued his passion for raising horses. His thoroughbreds achieved several victories at various California race tracks. Roy thoroughly enjoyed working around the ranch, which he kept immaculately manicured. Roy enjoyed the company of his new California friends, many of whom he met through his involvement in the community. He was an active member of the Speakeasy Toastmasters Club, where he developed and refined his skills as a public speaker. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Roy's honor to Loaves and Fishes, where he volunteered by transporting food in his favorite Ford truck. A service to celebrate Roy's life will be held on Saturday, March 2nd at 1:00pm at the Chapel of the Roses in Atascadero.
