Royce Alvin Tasker, born on August 8, 1923, in Nugent, Texas, passed away at the age of 100 on June 20, 2024, in Denison, Texas. A man of resilience and diverse interests, Royce's life was marked by his dedicated service during World War II, a varied professional life, and deep community ties.
Royce graduated from Wichita Falls High School and played on the Coyote Football Team before enlisting in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He completed 33 missions as a crew member, surviving a harrowing incident when his plane was struck by enemy fire and engulfed in flames, for which he was awarded the Purple Heart. At the time of his 100th Birthday, he was inducted into the local VFW Hero Hall of Fame and was honored with the declaration of "Royce Tasker Day" by Sherman's mayor.
Post-war, Royce returned to Texas where he initially managed a dairy farm in his youth. His career path later shifted as he briefly owned a dry-cleaning business and subsequently moved into sales, eventually specializing in forklifts.
Royce was a devout attendee of St. John Episcopal Church alongside his wife, Rosemary, where they were both active members and formed lasting friendships. His hobbies included golfing and participating in a bowling league with Rosemary, reflecting his passion for sports and community engagement.
