Roberta Elizabeth was born on May 27, 1936 in Franklin, VA to the late Rev. Postell S. and Minnie L. Watts. Her childhood years & early education were spent primarily in Franklin, Virginia, where she graduated from Hayden High School. She frequently traveled from Virginia to New York and New Jersey to visit her siblings until she finally relocated to join them in 1961. Roberta stayed with her brother Robert in Scotch Plains, NJ, and assumed her sister Wilma's job as an in-home caregiver.
Her career path continued as a machine operator at Burroughs and then Johnson & Johnson until each location closed down. While unemployed she pursued computer courses, however, she eventually finished her work life alongside her sister Queenie as an aide in the North Plainfield School district.
Roberta was predeceased in death by the love of her life Clarence "Dee Dee" Jasper. They met through a mutual friend who was in the military with Dee Dee and to this union their two children were born Odetta and Dexter. The family resided in several locations in Plainfield before purchasing their first home on Mariners Place which holds very fond memories as a welcoming hangout house to many family members and friends. This love and nurturing continued at the final Park Avenue residence;
with joyous celebrations as Roberta enjoyed the holiday seasons, her house adorned with lights and her collection of singing dancing animated figures lining the windows.
Shopping for nice clothes, shoes, traveling and dancing were a few of her favorite pleasures. Spending time with family was very special to Roberta, she also maintained a loving bond with her in-laws and enjoyed taking photos to capture memories from each activity. However, her greatest joy was serving the Lord at her beloved Community Baptist Church. She thoroughly enjoyed singing praises in the choir and also at home with her gospel CD collection. Her service and love for the Lord were evident even outside the church walls, she had a genuine fun loving and giving spirit that she freely shared
with all those she encountered. Sometimes the sting of her blunt straight forward approach of speaking her mind, could catch you off guard, but it was just a part of her honesty and unapologetic genuine sincerity that made you love her more.
The Lord called Roberta home to eternal rest on October 21, 2024 at the age of 88. Her loving, cheerful personality and wit will forever be remembered in the hearts of many. She leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter Odetta and son Dexter (Debbie); granddaughter Eboni; brother Robert
Watts; sister Wilma Neal (John); niece Donna Neal; bonus children: Timothy Gray, Michelle Bryant-
Judkins, Alfreda LaCroix and a host of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased in death by
three sisters Dorothy Divak, Addie Mae Watts and Queenie Newson. Rest Well thy Good and Faithful
Servant, Amen.

I met Roberta when we worked at Burroughs Corporation in Warren, NJ. Roberta was friendly and certainly spoke her mind. We were friends on the job for the time I was there, 9 years, then they closed down the factory. After many years Roberta and I ran into each other again and picked up our friendship. She was still that same direct person but she cared for people greatly. My husband was dealing with a lot of health challenges. Roberta would just come by at any given time and check on us, even when she was having challenges herself. She courageously maintained her independence and didn't talk a lot about her challenges. Roberta truly was a caring friend. I am thankful that God brought her back into my life. My prayers are with Odetta and Dexter and the family. Your mom was a great lady! from Sarah Mobley, Plainfield, NJ.
