Ruben Ortiz Obituary
Former Soledad resident Ruben Rodriguez Ortiz Sr. passed away on January 26 2026 in Salinas CA. The son of Carlos M. and Ygnacia R. Ortiz,. Ruben was born in La Union, New Mexico on May 29, 1950. He spent his youth in Arizona before moving to Salinas CA in the 60's. In 1965 Ruben crossed paths with his lifelong sweetheart Lilly Montoya at a Guadalupano dance. They married on June 5th of 1971 in Soledad CA at Our Lady of Solitude Church. Involved in agriculture for over 40 yrs, Ruben also dedicated his time as a church usher and community volunteer. In 2003 Ruben and his family joined El Teatro Campesino in San Juan Bautista dedicating their talents and skills to the famed theater company. Always the life of the party and the family "DJ" Ruben Ortiz Sr will always be remembered for his snappy wit and charismatic personality.
Ruben leaves behind a son Ruben Jr, and daughters Lupita, and Krystal. He is survived by three brothers : Arturo (Florence), Jose (Tina), Pedro, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his lifelong love Lily, sisters Elida Garcia, Catalina Ortiz, and a sister-n-law Chonita Ortiz.
Services will be held on February 9th at Our Lady of Solitude Catholic Church, 235 Main St. in Soledad CA. Public viewing will be from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm with a rosary and mass at 11:00 am. Following the services, a reception will be held at California Gourmet in Soledad.
