Rubie Christine Leeper

Rubie Christine Leeper, age 95, of Herrin, passed away at 6:58pm on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Integrity Healthcare of Carbondale.
Rubie was born Tuesday, June 11, 1929 in Madisonville, Kentucky, a daughter of John William and Sylvia (Townsend) Tow. She married the love of her life, William E. "Bill" Leeper in Herrin on April 5, 1963. Together, they shared more than fifty-one years of marriage and wonderful memories. He preceded her in death on June 28, 2015.
Prior to her retirement, Rubie had worked as a seamstress at Smoler Brothers. She enjoyed doing puzzles, gardening, and working outside in her yard, when her health allowed. Rubie spent her life nurturing her loved ones. A loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, Rubie's family was her greatest joy. She cherished every moment spent with them. Her love and generosity inspired countless people throughout her ninety-five years. Her kindness, warmth, and guidance will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law- Cheryl and Tom Cundiff of Herrin; daughter- Crystal Wade of Herrin; son- Randall Leeper of Herrin; four grandchildren- Ashley Cundiff of Herrin, Bobby Joe (Geri) Wade of Herrin, Matthew Cundiff of Herrin, and James Cundiff of Herrin, stationed at Offutt Air Force Base; one great grandchild- Chevy of Herrin; sister-in-law- Rose Tow of Herrin; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband- William E. "Bill" Leeper, sister and brother-in-law- Dorothy and Lynial Jennings, and brother- Charles Tow.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a time of visitation from 10:00am-11:00am on Monday, December 23, 2024 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home (201 S. 13th Street in Herrin).
Funeral services to celebrate Rubie's life will begin at 11:00am on Monday, December 23, 2024 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. John Michael Connell will officiate services.
Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery, where Rubie will be laid to rest next to her husband.
