Ruby Carter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jones Funeral Chapel - Crawford on Feb. 18, 2024.
A Life of Family and Service
Mother Ruby Augusta Carter was born April 18, 1940, the third child of Lawrence and Dochia Williams, Lexington Georgia. She attended Oglethorpe County Training School and graduated in 1959.
In 1970, she married the late John Henry Carter. Affectionately, known as JHop, they were married 28 years and adopted one son, Robert Carter.
Ruby joined Russell Chapel AME Church, Lexington, at an early age. Upon moving to Atlanta, she joined Central Holiness under Bishop J. T. Barnett. Then in 1984 she became a member of Movement for Christ Deliverance Church under the leadership of Bishop H. Barnes and First Lady Annie Barnes. There Missionary Carter was very active, singing in the choir, serving as Church Secretary, President of the Pastor's Aide and President of the Missionary Board.
In her last years, she followed the teachings of the Word of Truth and Clean Life for Christ under Elder Gregory Bronner, Stone Mountain.
For more than thirty years, Ruby loved being a Nanny. She often spoke with pride of many wonderful memories with the Johnstons, the Lockards and the Youngs. They were her second families.
Ruby always loved family and community. Nothing made her happier than spending time with people she loved like her God-daughter, Tracie Henry, nephew, Gregory Bronner and family friend Madelyn Williams. Her Atlanta neighbors will recall her traditional New Years' Day meal of neckbones, collards and black-eyed peas. Everyone was welcome!
Mother Ruby leaves to cherish her memory one sister, Virginia Johnson (Mack), Colbert GA; one brother, Charlie Williams, Athens, GA; one sister- in- law, Eula Williams, Stephens, GA. and a host of nieces and nephews who lovingly called her Aunt Gus; cousins, her "Nanny families" and friends.
