Ruby Faye Carter, 84, of Hamlin, Texas received her full and complete healing on January 21, 2024, surrounded by family as she entered her eternal home in heaven.

She was born to parents George and Lucille Campbell on April 12, 1939, in Hamlin. Her childhood best friend was her little sister Minna Mae. Ruby graduated from Hamlin High School in 1957. After high school, she worked outside the home at the hospital, Cecil Sellers Cattle Co., WTU, and the nursing home. She was a Coming Home Queen nominee and she volunteered to assist with Homecoming preparations for decades.

Ruby was a member of the First Baptist Church and worked in many capacities over the years at church functions with her Sunday school class and her children’s activities. She had been faithful to tithe all these years to the church, contribute to the Wounded Warriors Project, Disabled Veterans, the Carter Foundation, and The Salvation Army.  She could always be counted upon to bring food, especially her signature pink salad, to assist many families at the church.

Ruby cherished her family.  She considered her highest honor the work and devotion she did inside her home. She was known to lead anyone to get to know her savior over a cup of tea or coffee.  She loved being a mother and Mimi.  She was known as Momma Ruby to many nephews, cousins, and classmates of her children as well. If you came over to visit, you would laugh while playing a card game, board game, or any type of game to have fun. She was definitely competitive.

She held Al Anon meetings at her home for over 30 years.   This part of her ministry was near and dear to her heart. She experienced seeing many changes of the face of Hamlin and loved her Pied Pipers. Her favorite college team was Texas Tech University. She loved traveling with family and friends, especially to see her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their activities.

Ruby is survived by her daughter, LaEtta, son-in-law Craig, her sister Minna, grandchildren Jake (Becky), Anna (Ryun), Kegan (Ashley), Jonathan, Isaac, Luke, Claire (Jorge), & Aaron; great-grandchildren Quinn, Grey, Liam, George Elliott, Cohen, Brighton, Aurora, Rome, Greysen, Demetri, Marissa, Kyra, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Lucille, her husband Ronald, son George, and granddaughter Sarah.

Ruby fought a long hard battle with cancer and the aftereffects of it over the last two decades, but she showed such strength and resilience and never lost hope. She was ready to meet Jesus, continuing to show such courage to her family and friends with the confident expectation of what God has promised and its strength is in His faithfulness. She will always be missed and left a legacy of faith, love, hope, and perseverance to admire.

A Celebration of Ruby’s life will be held at the First Baptist Church on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 11 am with Drew Thomlinson and Russ Ponder officiating.
