Ruby Lea Dowdle, born on August 9, 1952, in Logansport, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025, at Country Time Inn Assisted Living in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. She was the beloved daughter of the late Will Free and Frances Brock Free, and she leaves behind cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
Ruby had a vibrant spirit and enjoyed a multitude of hobbies that brought joy to her life. She was an enthusiastic player of bingo and found excitement in gambling at the slot machines. With a passion for nature, Ruby possessed a green thumb; her talent as an avid flower gardener created beautiful landscapes that reflected her love for the environment. Additionally, she had a heartwarming collection of stuffed animals and delighted in visits to the beach, where she found peace and happiness. Above all, Ruby had a special affinity for children, reveling in their laughter and innocence.
Her memory will be treasured by her family, including her daughter, Crystal Dowdle; her sisters, Katie Childers (Denny) and Ruth Ann Pope (Billy); a special niece, Dana Pope; and her granddog, Roxie. Each of these individuals played a significant role in her life, and their bonds will continue to shine brightly in the days to come.
Ruby's journey through life was also marked by the loss of family, having been preceded in death by her parents as well as her siblings, Roy Free, Thomas Free, David Free, and Gail Stowe. These departures have left a profound impact on her life, shaping the loving person she became.
To honor Ruby's life and memory, a visitation service will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Benson Funeral & Cremation, located at 101 Oak Grove St., Mt. Holly, NC 28120. This gathering will provide family and friends the opportunity to share in remembrance and celebrate the life she led.
Ruby Lea Dowdle's legacy will forever resonate through the connections she made and the lives she touched. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
