Ruby M. McDowell, 95, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

She was born January 27, 1930 in St. Joseph to Clarence and Bessie (Chesser) McCall. Ruby grew up in the St. Joseph area and graduated from Central High School in 1948.

Ruby married Earnest Franklin McDowell in the summer of 1953. He preceded her in death on December 8, 1991.

After her children were in school, Ruby was a seamstress at H.D. Lee for many years, retiring in 1984.

Ruby enjoyed crocheting and embroidery, and loved to spend time with her grandchildren. She was an amazing cook, known for her spaghetti and meatballs, bread, and cinnamon rolls.

She also loved camping and traveling. Her children fondly remember trips to the Grand Canyon and Niagara Falls, among many other locations in the U.S.

Ruby leaves a legacy of love and the balance of hard work and enjoying time together.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother; husband; two sons, David McDowell and Earnest Franklin McDowell, Jr.; one grandchild, Daniel Jackson; and two great-grandchildren.

Survivors include Diana Richardson (Bill), Barbara Jackson (Marvin), Mary McDowell, and Betty King; nine grandchildren, Matt and Kimberly Richardson, Scott and Jennifer Jackson, Stacy and Amanda Quinn, Sylvia Peterson, and Rachael and Wyle King; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
