Ruby Scudder Obituary

March 28, 1927 - November 28, 2024

Born in Quanah, Texas, Jo was the second of three children born to the late Howard Norton Bridendall and Ruby Lee Sneed Bridendall. Jo was a graduate of Quanah High School class of 1945. Following graduation, Jo attended Southwest Texas Teacher's College in San Marcos, until marrying Carl Scudder on October 24,1950. She then joined him in College Station until he graduated in 1951.

Jo and Carl spent the first four years after graduation living the army life as Carl served four years in the Army Security Agency. This chapter brought the couple the first two of their three children. Maura was born in Ft. Devens, Massachusetts on April 6, 1953 and Ricky was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on April 25, 1955. Jo's family then spent the next part of their lives in a variety of cities such as Houston Texas, New Orleans Louisiana, Atlanta Georgia and Chicago Illinois while Carl worked for Best Foods Corporation. The youngest of Jo's three children, Chris, joined the family on October 8, 1964, while they were living in New Orleans. When the opportunity presented itself, the family returned to Jo's native state of Texas where they spent time living in the Austin area before moving to Wimberley in 1977. Jo and Carl divorced in 19 83.

Jo spent the rest of her life in the Wimberley area. In addition to being a homemaker, Jo also worked for the Wimberley Post Office for 10 years before retiring. After Jo retired, she and friends from Wimberley spent many years traveling the great parks of Texas. Jo enjoyed playing bridge, dominos, and Mexican train to name a view of her favorites. She belonged to many local groups and also enjoyed playing games with her grandchildren. One of Jo's favorite things to do was curl up with a good book. She was an avid reader. Jo belonged to the Wimberley United Methodist Church where she was an active and devout member of the church.

Jo passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 28, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas. Jo was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Maura Lynn Scudder Donnelly, her son Carl Frederick Scudder III, her sister Mary Bridendall Moseley, her brother-in-law Roger Montgomery, her niece Linda Moseley, and nephews Bruce Montgomery and Steve Moseley. She is survived by her son Chris and wife Lynn Scudder, her son-in-law, Tim Donnelly, and her daughter-in-law, Tracy Scudder. She is also survived by her sister Howardene and husband John Otstott, her nieces Suzanne Kelley and Rose Montgomery, and great nephew Stewart Montgomery. Jo's grandchildren are Kristen Scudder and husband Chris Lamb, Amanda Scudder, Jennifer Donnelly, Carla Scudder, Barron Scudder, Meagan Donnelly Hileman and husband Tanner Hileman, Preslee Barfield, Caitlynne Scudder and fiancée Will Kammerer, and great grandchildren Rankin Hileman, Leeloo Kammerer, Harrison Barfield and June Scudder.

Jo was a kind woman. She had a big heart for her pets and family. I enjoyed visiting my mother in law, and those special August nights under the stars - sleeping out side with all the kids around a fire. So much fun. Rousing games of Rummykub and Hand and Foot with her friends. Fond memories.

Perry and I were talking about Jo just a few days ago. We were both very fond of her. Salt of the earth! So sorry for your loss, and may the peace of God comfort you all.

I remember picking her up to play 42 dominos one nite at Nelda Jean Williams home. Jo was an awesome player. But this particular night when we pulled up to her home she sat in my truck. I asked her are you ok and she quickly replied yea but my family wants me to go to one of those assisted living places. She asked me what I thought and I told her I would love it, to be with friends and play games. She followed with well they think I am old. We laughed and I said "Well I always told my mom she wasn´t old until she was 88 years old. A strange look came on her face and I ask what ...she said I turned 88 yesterday. So we laughed again and I said ok you´re old. She was a character and I so enjoyed her company.
