Ruby Roberta Tarte, wife of the late James Tarte, peacefully left this world on September 13, 2025, at the age of 95.

Born on August 31, 1930, in White Plains, South Carolina, Ruby was the daughter of the late Major Elrod and Ellen Bryant Elrod.

As a devoted homemaker, Ruby's heart was always open, and her home was a gathering place filled with laughter and love. She was never too busy for a chat on the phone or an afternoon of shopping, whether for groceries or the next adorable glass shoe to add to her treasured collection.

Ruby is survived by her loving son, Jimmy Tarte, and daughter-in-law, Donna Tarte; her daughter, Rebecca "Sissy" Julian, and son-in-law, Paul Julian; her daughter, Sybil Jones, and son-in-law, Larry Jones; as well as her cherished grandchildren, Doug Sanders, Jason Tarte, Ellen Tarte, Amanda Tarte and step-grandsons, Ryan Jones, Michael and Matthew Julian. She also leaves behind ten treasured great-grandchildren, her daughter-in-law, Myra Tarte, and her dear nephew, Steve Elrod, along with her neighbor, Joey Phillips, who will all miss her dearly.

In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Ruby was preceded in death by her son, Michael Tarte; grandson, Craig Jones; step-grandson, Travis Julian; great-granddaughter, Turtle Sanders; brothers, Jabis Elrod, Ed Elrod and Carl Evatt; and sisters, Mildred McGraff and Carrie Lee Jones.

Ruby's warmth and kindness touched countless lives, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 18th, from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. A funeral to celebrate her life will immediately follow in the chapel at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown, with burial in Graceland Cemetery West.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Interim Hospice, 100 Verdae Blvd., Suite 300, Greenville, SC 29607.
