Rudolph J. Codino, "Joe" 82, a longtime resident of Newington, passed peacefully at home on Friday, December 21, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 25, 1930, in Larchmont, NY; Joe was the son of the late Alex and Carmela Codino and the beloved husband to the late Philomena "Phyllis" (Vasami) Codino who predeceased him in 1996. Joe enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1948 and retired in 1969 from active duty after achieving the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.
During his military career Joe's occupational specialty was in laboratory medicine serving as the Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge of laboratories at general medical and tactical hospitals in the U.S.A. and the United Kingdom. Joe's last duty station was at Offutt Air Force Base, Strategic Air Command Headquarters Omaha, Nebraska where he was Superintendent of Laboratory Medicine. Joe retired from the State of Connecticut in 1984. He then went on to establish a public health consulting business and in addition founded Professional Pest Control Service. Joe transitioned into retirement to spend more time with his loving wife and family. His passion for caring for his family, gardening, and canning, cooking, and wine making became his fulltime job. His backyard gardens typically consisted of 125 tomato plants, various vegetables, 20 fruit trees, and bee hives. At the end of summer Joe spent weeks canning fruits and vegetables. With the onset of fall the family tradition, was to help Joe make his highly sought after red wine that was enjoyed by all who visited his home. Joe's wonderful sense of humor, kindness and compassion endeared him to everyone he met. His children and grandchildren adored him and will forever have warm memories of time spent with "Pop". Joe was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Newington. He leaves behind his sons, James Codino and his wife, AnnaLiza, his son John Codino, and former daughter-in-law Therese Codino, his two granddaughters Carla and Cari and grandson Alex all of Newington. I just found out from Marie Roberto of Joe's passing. She was a neighbor of mine in Cromwell, before I married & moved away. Joe was a kind, gentle man, and I am so sorry for your loss. Please know he is in my prayers and thoughts, and even though I don't know you all, I knew Joe, and you all I'm sure love him very much. He will always be with you. May God Bless, another good man is now with God.

Joe was a pioneer in his chosen specialty and earned the high respect from all who knew him as an individual and as a practitioner. He had the vision on the importance of safe practices and did so with grace and a deep knowledge base. Many of us will long remember this special man and send sincerest sympathies to his family
