Rudolph Stephenson, Jr., 79, of S. Prince George passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. Born October 17, 1945, he was the son of the late Evelyn and Rudolph Stephenson, Sr. and was also preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Godwin Stephenson; and daughter, Cindy Marie Stephenson.
A longtime and active member of Second Baptist Church in Petersburg, Rudolph lived his life guided by faith and a deep commitment to his community. His career in education began as a football coach for Prince George Public Schools before he transitioned to Petersburg Public Schools. While coaching, he pursued higher education at Virginia State University, where he earned his Master’s Degree in Education. His passion for shaping young minds led him to become a principal within the Petersburg School System, a role he held with distinction for over 35 years. There as the football coach, he led his teams to state titles, instilling discipline, teamwork, and perseverance in generations of athletes.
Beyond his work in education, Rudolph was a former member of the Kiwanis Club in Petersburg and believed in giving back in any way he could. He found joy in staying busy, often spending time cutting grass for his community. A true history buff, he was also an avid relic hunter, always eager to uncover pieces of the past.
He is survived by his daughter, Amy Leigh Woodfin and husband, John; son, Robert Wayne Stephenson and wife, Rosie; grandchildren, Savannah Bordeau and husband, Josh, Chandler Woodfin and fiancé, Cody Ellis, Rudy Stephenson, Reed Stephenson; great-grandchild, Waverly Bordeau; sister, Wanda Kay Jackson; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
