Rufino N. Quicho, Jr., aged 78 years old, residing in Antioch, California passed away on July 10th, 2023. Rufino, Jr. (nicknamed "Roy") is survived by his children, Donna and Ruffy; their spouses, Roderick and Christina; and his grandchildren, Dylan, Noah and Bryant.
Roy was born on December 11th, 1944 in Laguna, Philippines to Rufino B. Quicho, Sr. and Rizalina Norona. He was raised in Manila, Philippines and studied at De La Salle University (DLSU) for elementary school, high school and college. Roy was a shooting guard for the DLSU Green Archers varsity basketball team. He was a loyal alumnus to his alma mater and remained friends with many of his classmates. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce, worked at IBM and Philips in the Philippines, and was an active member of the Jaycees, a professional leadership organization in the Philippines.
Roy met the love of his life, Judith (nicknamed "Judy") Francisco, in 1968 at Far East and Trust company where she handled new accounts. They were instantly smitten with each other and wed on April 11th, 1970. They had two children, Donna and Rufino, III ("Ruffy").
In 1987, Roy and his family immigrated to British Columbia, Canada to seek better opportunities, and then later on to California in 1991 to chase the American dream. In California, he worked as a financial accountant, and was an active member and a one-time president of PICPA, a professional association of Filipino certified public accountants.
Roy and Judy were happily married, and for their 25th wedding anniversary, they celebrated with a lavish renewal of vows. They were married for 52 years until Judy's passing last October 2022. There never was a day when Roy didn't miss his Judy.
Since his childhood, Roy was an avid train hobbyist, having made hundreds and hundreds of model trains, planes, cars, etc. He loved working on jigsaw puzzles and had an endearing habit of framing every single one. Roy had an appreciation for exquisitely crafted art, and was a collector of Lladro and Lenox sculptures. He also loved playing the guitar, specifically surf guitar music like the Ventures, so much that he and his DLSU friends formed a band (or as Roy referred to as a "combo") called The Rebels.
Roy, we will miss you. Rest in peace, our beloved father, grandfather and friend. May you be happy in heaven, together again with Judy, the love of your life.
