Russel F. Thommen died on October 27, 2025. He was born March 26, 1929 in Edina, Missouri to Pearl and Isabelle Thommen. He married Easter B. (Candy) Lowe on February 1, 1953 in Yakima, Washington. She preceded him in death in 2010.

Survivors include his sons Michael (Kathleen) Thommen, Glen (Ann) Thommen and Derryl Thommen, grandchildren Ruston, Ashley, Monica and Hailey, great grandchildren Trent, Juniper, Evelyn and Rex.

He married Gladys Pauls in 2014. She preceded him in death in 2019.

Russel enlisted in the army in 1947 and served in the Korean conflict and in Germany. He entered the Oregon National Guard in 1964, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1977. Russ worked at Western Oregon State College (WOU) as a carpenter and then as the Physical Plant manager, retiring in 1989. His hobbies included fishing, crabbing, hunting, wine making and gardening, amongst others. He and his wife Candy were very involved in the Dallas Senior Center, He was also very active at the Dallas Retirement Village (DRV), driving the DART for fellow residents and helping set up the Hobby Center and the gardening beds. His DRV neighbors also enjoyed the large Christmas tree he decorated each year outside his residence.

He will be remembered as a generous and gentle friend, father and grandfather.

A private family interment will be held at the Willamette National Cemetery. A memorial gathering will be held at the DRV Cascade Commons at 1 pm on Saturday, November 15th.
