Russell Lee Hornsby Jr., 74, of Vevay, passed away at 1:32 p.m. on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at his residence.

Born December 7, 1951, in Hazard, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Russell Lee Hornsby Sr. and Bertha Elizabeth (Robbins) Hornsby. He married Chola Leota Dunham on February 14, 1988, in Vernon; she preceded him in death on February 9, 2017.

Russell attended Scottsburg High School and was a graduate of Ivy Tech Community College. He retired in 2024 from Walmart in Madison where he was an IT Tech and worked in Electronics, He retired in 2013 after 30 plus years from Homeland Security at Muscatatuck Urban Training Center in Butlerville. He was a member of the North Vernon Wesleyan Church. Russell enjoyed family time and watching the Cincinnati Bengals and NASCAR.

Russell is survived by his sons, Lamar (Elizabeth) Hornsby of Louisa, Virginia, Kenny Hornsby of South Carolina, Floyd Wayne Johnson Jr. of North Vernon and Dale Lynn (Gail) Johnson of North Vernon; his daughters, Gail (John) Kuntz of North Vernon and Pamela (Richard) Burks of Blackstone, Virginia; brother, Lonnie (Niena) Noble of Austin; sisters, Betty (Jeff Daley) Hornsby and Bull Shoals, Arkansas; Thirty-one grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Russell Hornsby III; a daughter, Amy Didomizio; and a great-grandson.

The funeral for Russell will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. James Wilson Jr. officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. The burial will follow in the Pisgah Cemetery in Jefferson County.

Memorials may be made in honor of Russell through the funeral home for funeral expenses.
