Russell A. “Russ” Larson, 81, of Humboldt, passed away at his home with family by his side on Sunday evening, September 29, 2024.
Russ was born September 17, 1943, in Fort Dodge, the son of Maurice and Janet (Johnson) Larson. He grew up in rural Bode and attended Twin Rivers Schools, graduating in 1961 from Twin Rivers High School in Bode. He served as a clerk in the Iowa Army National Guard 1-194 Field Artillery Battalion. Russ helped on the family farm at an early age and following his schooling worked two winters for John Deere in the Quad Cities. He returned to the Bode area and purchased his first farm at age twenty-five northwest of Bode, working the land and raising livestock. Russ would spend free time in his twenties and thirties roller skating, he built a race car and raced in Algona, playing cards and being active in a ski club in Fort Dodge. He trained to be a ski patrol skier at the local ski lodge. It was through the ski club that he would take trips to Colorado, Nevada and even a trip to Europe. He was united in marriage to Kelley Smith on August 7, 1993 in Bode. The couple made their home in Bode where they started their family. In 1996, they moved to Humboldt. Russ served on the Board of the Farmer’s Co-op Elevator in Ottosen and was involved with his church. He enjoyed family, their time camping and skiing and his coffee groups.
Russ is survived by his wife Kelley, children; Bryan (Silvana) Larson of Flagstaff, Arizona, Samantha Larson of Denver, Colorado and Tara Larson of Brooklyn, New York, his brothers, Curtis Larson of New Prague, Minnesota and Roger Larson of Mankato, his sister Mary (Jim) Froisland of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 7th at LifeGate Fellowship in Humboldt. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 6th at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service in Humboldt. Burial will be in St. Olaf Cemetery, Bode. www.masonlindhart.com
