Russell P. Oakes ObituaryRussell P. Oakes, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025, at the age of ninety-seven. He was born on October 6, 1927, to Urban and Matilda Oakes (nee: Myers) at Akron, Ohio, but moved in 1959 and called Stow his home. Russell leaves behind a legacy filled with love, wisdom, and unwavering support for his family.
A veteran of the United States Army, Russell exemplified courage and dedication throughout his life. He is survived by his sons, Donald (Dorene) Oakes, Paul Oakes; daughters Diane Oakes and Linda Nash and as well as his beloved grandchildren, Jim (Renata) Oakes, and Laura (James) Klingbeil, as well as six great grandchildren. Russell's warm spirit and gentle humor were a source of comfort to all who knew him, and his memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
In honor of Russell's life, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Holy Family Catholic Church at Stow on January 23, 2025, at 10:00 am, followed by interment at Silver Springs Cemetery. Prior to this, a public visitation will take place in the Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home at Stow, OH, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday January 22, 2025.
In addition to his parents Russell was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Marilyn Oakes (nee:Corl) in 2005.
