Russell Smart, 30, of Kingsford passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. He was born July 29, 1995 in Iron Mountain, MI, son of Bradley and Kristy (Trempe) Smart. Russell graduated from Kingsford High School and was a lifelong resident of the area. Russell had a lifelong passion for weightlifting. The gym was where he pushed himself, but it was also where he found purpose in helping others. He shared his knowledge and energy with individuals and local sports teams always focusing on building confidence as much as strength. For Russell, it wasn't just about lifting weights but also about lifting people up. His encouragement and example left a lasting impact on all those he supported. Travel was another joy in Russell's life. He began taking road trips with his dad at a very young age, first visiting the Mackinac Bridge and later Mount Rushmore. From that time on, he was always planning the next road trip. Some of his most memorable trips included a senior trip with friends to Glamis, California, where they rode side-by-sides through the giant sand dunes. After that, Russell took multiple trips to Colorado, where he enjoyed side-by-side riding in Taylor Park, attended the Strongman competition where he met Brian Shaw, and even met friends in- person whom he had played video games with online. Some of his most recent trips included a cross-country road trip to see the Redwood Forest, hanging out with fitness influencers in Montana who took him drifting in Porsches, and bungee jumping off a cliff in Moab, Utah, an experience that captured his fearless spirit and determination to keep living life to the fullest. At home, Russell enjoyed get-togethers with friends and family. He could often be found at friends' camps and cottages during hunting season, enjoying cookouts (especially when steak was on the grill), playing poker with his friends, and relaxing by the lake with family. Russell will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor, and positive outlook on life. He faced challenges with determination, setting consistent goals and overcoming obstacles with hard work and resilience. Above all, he will be remembered as someone who inspired others to keep pushing forward, never give up, and always find strength within themselves. He is survived by his parents, sisters, maternal grandparents, aunts and uncles, several cousins, and many lifelong friends. Private family services will be held. Condolences may be expressed to the family of Russell Smart online at www.ernashfuneralhome.com. The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.
