Russell Z. "Russ" Ward, age 61, passed away Monday, November 17, 2025 at Riverside Methodist Hospital.
On November 14, 1964 Russ was born in Marion, Ohio. The son of late John and Thelma A. (Weikle) Ward.
Russell was a man who embraced life with open arms and an open heart. His greatest joy came from sharing that life with the people he loved most: his family, his friends, and the extended family he found through his work.
For many years, Russell dedicated himself to Tri-Rivers Career Center, a place he cherished not just as a job, but as a community. His coworkers were more than colleagues; they became his "extended family," and he carried deep pride in the work they accomplished together.
A man of many passions, Russell especially loved collecting sports cards. He found joy and nostalgia in each card he added to his collection, often sharing stories behind his favorites with those close to him. His collection was not just a hobby but a reflection of his enthusiasm, curiosity, and the simple pleasures he cherished.
Russell also found profound happiness in the loving companionship he shared with Mary Dunn. Together, they built a life filled with simple joys and extraordinary moments. The pair were true adventurers at heart, traveling near and far to discover new waterfalls on the map, finding beauty in the hidden corners of nature. They treasured their visits to Amish Country, where peaceful scenery and quiet charm filled their days. Yet some of their most meaningful moments were found right at home, sitting side by side on their bench beside their house, watching the traffic roll by and taking in the gentle rhythms of the day.
Compassion was one of Russell's defining qualities. He and Mary were devoted supporters of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, giving generously to help children and families in need. At home, his caring nature extended to his beloved dogs and pet fish, each of whom he cherished as true members of his family.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved son, Shawn (Danielle Millisor) Dunn; grandchildren: Chelsie Dunn, Cierra (Kole Shepherd) Millisor, Lincoln, Rylee, Kimberlynn Brown, Mia, and Oaklynn; sister, Evelyn Partlow; nieces: Crystal (Brian) Maniaci, Tonii Maniaci, Amber Smith, and Felicia Smith; nephews Russell (Brittany) Smith, Todd (Beth) Partlow, and Jonas Partlow; and many great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in death by his loving companion, Mary H. Dunn; sister, April; and step-son, Chris.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made out to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. 501 St. Jude’s Place • Memphis, TN 38105.
Visitation will be held from 5PM-7PM on Friday, November 21, 2025 at Snyder Funeral Homes, GUNDER/HALL Chapel; 347 W. Center St., Marion, OH 43302. Funeral Ceremony will be at 10AM on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Snyder Funeral Homes, GUNDER/HALL with Pastor Brett Gleespen, officiating. Graveside Service to follow at Price Cemetery.
