Ruth Thornton Aldridge, 88.passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025. Ruth was born on September 18,1936 to M. K. and Lucille Thornton. She graduated from West High School.
Ruth had a career working for AT& T then was Librarian at Durant Public Library until her
retirement.
She was married to her husband Carlton for 68 years. Ruth and Carlton lived in Durant,
Ms. for many years then moved to West, Mississippi.
Ruth was committed and loyal member of the communities in which she lived. She was
an active member of West Methodist Church. Ruth was an avid reader and collector of
many novels. She loved to exercise, travel, work crossword puzzles and fellowship with
her family and friends.
Ruth is survived by her brother Doug Thornton ( Margaret Aden), her sister, Mary Wynne ( Doc) :
nephews Mike Wynne ( Becky),Greg Wynne ( Marcy), Steve Thornton ( Lisa), Doug Aldridge ( Jean), Sam Aldridge ( Mitzi); nieces Amanda Cagle, Margaret Claire Pound ( Thomas),
and Lee Schoentrup (Will). She has many great nephews and nieces as well.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Rorie Carlton Aldridge; parents, M.K and Lucille Thornton and her baby sister, Betty Louise Thornton.
Graveside services will be Thursday, Sept 11th 2025 at 11 A.M from the Unite Baptist Cemetery
near West, Mississippi. This Cemetery is on Highway 440.
