Ruth Sylvia Barbee Austin

Ruth Sylvia Austin, 92, of Oakboro, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at Stanly Manor in Albemarle.

Ruth was born February 14, 1932 in North Carolina to the late Vernon James Barbee and the late Dallie Mae Burris Barbee. She was also preceded in death by husband, J.B. Austin; sons, Eulan Lee Austin and Ronnie J. Austin; brothers, Ray Junior Barbee, Marvin Barbee, Roy Gene Barbee, Lee Jay Barbee, Afton James Barbee.

Ruth was a wonderful mother and a loving grandmother. She enjoyed having family meals and going on family vacations with each of her children. She was a faithful member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church. Ruth was extremely hard working whether it be inside the home or outside in the yard. She was known to have a green thumb, everyone always loved seeing the beautiful flowers that she would plant each year. 

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm, Monday, January 20, 2025 at Mineral Springs Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm at Mineral Springs Baptist Church in Oakboro officiated by Dr. Rev. Kinney Wallace and Rev. Reggie Hinson. Burial will follow at the Smith Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery at 25711 Old School Road, Oakboro. The family will be gathering at Sherry's home on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at 5pm, friends and relatives are welcome to drop in. 

Survivors include daughters, Sherry (Reggie) Hinson of Oakboro, NC, Bonnie (Ronny) Aldridge of Oakboro, NC; son, Gary (Jane) Austin of Oakboro, NC; daughter-in- law Judy Austin of Oakboro; grandchildren Stephanie (Sherrell) Hatley of Norwood, Jarod Austin, Oakboro, Jeremy Hinson of Oakboro, Haven Kehl (Jojo) of Oakboro, Anthony Hinson (Heather) of Oakboro, Justin Hinson (Katelyn) of Oakboro, Francine Thompson (Jake) of Asheboro and Faith Carpenter (Matt) of Norwood; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Mason, Peyton, Reed, Gauge, Lynnox, Spencer, Taylor, Josie, Amy Ruth, Elias, and on the way is Lillian Ruth and sisters; Lois Eudy of Locust, NC, Verna Mae Laton of Concord, Sadie Whitley of Stanfield, NC.

The family would like to thank Stanly Manor for the care given to them during the time of their mother's passing.
