Obituary of Ruth Martha Bauer
Ruth Martha Bauer, age 98, passed away peacefully at Fellowship Village Assisted Living in Basking Ridge on Sunday, June 16, 2024, just a few weeks shy of her 99th birthday.
Ruth was born in Stuttgart, Germany. She briefly moved to the United States, but after the untimely passing of her father, her family returned to Germany. They lived there until the beginning of World War II when they moved back to the United States in 1936. Ruth settled in Verona, New Jersey, where she began her family. In 1945, she married Richard Bauer, and in 1958, they moved to Watchung, where their family continued to grow, and she remained there for most of her life.
As a young girl, Ruth was commissioned by the U.S. Military to help translate German into English. She was later employed by Expression Unlimited in Warren as the head of public relations for many years.
Ruth was a dedicated member of Wilson Memorial Union Church in Watchung, actively contributing to their fundraising efforts. An avid crafter, she helped run the crafting club at Fellowship Village.
She also had a passion for travel, exploring the world with her beloved husband, Richard. Together, they visited far-flung destinations such as Africa, Turkey, and many other countries. Above all, Ruth cherished gardening and was a longtime member of the Garden Club in Watchung, a passion she lovingly passed down to her three children.
Ruth was predeceased by her loving husband, Richard Frank Bauer, in 1993, and her grandson, Eric.
She is survived by her three sons: Richard and his wife Helen, Robert and his wife Linda, and Raymond and his wife Linda; seven grandchildren: Michael, Laura (Keith), Rosemary (Chad), Amanda (Anthony), Morgan (Nick), and Jennifer; and six great-grandchildren: Trenton, Mason, Cali, Kylie, Benjamin, and Reilly.
A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date at Wilson Memorial Union Church in Watchung, NJ.
