Bridgewater - On Friday, September 5, 2025, Eleanor Elizabeth Fahey passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Eleanor was born in Bernardsville, New Jersey to Joseph and Carmela (Fantina) Sassi. She moved to Bridgewater, New Jersey in 1963 and was a resident for over 60 years.

Eleanor graduated from Bernards High School in Bernardsville. Upon graduation, she was employed by Allied Chemical headquartered in Morristown, New Jersey while pursuing her degree. Eleanor received a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Following, she joined the teaching staff of the Bernards Township School System in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. Eleanor directed an early childhood class/nursery school and taught foods and nutrition for many years. She later accepted a position with the Probation Department of the New Jersey Superior Court in Somerville.

Eleanor was a long-time member of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Martinsville, New Jersey. She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Altar Rosary Society, the Counsel of Catholic Women, the Literacy Volunteers of America of Somerset County, the New Jersey Education Association and the National Education Association. The study of foods and nutrition defined her life which culminated in her developing a comprehensive grain-free, gluten-free and refined sugar-free cookbook, Comfort Cooking Without Grains and Refined Sugars. Eleanor developed the book in order to help children and adults who suffered with allergies and/or digestive issues caused by grains and gluten. Her cookbook was published in 2011. She loved reading, puzzling, traveling and music but her greatest joy was spending time with her husband and family.

Eleanor is survived by three loving children; Gary Fahey and his spouse, Chantira of Las Vegas, Nevada; Laura Fahey of Bridgewater, New Jersey; Mark Fahey and his spouse, Sonie of Woodbridge, New Jersey; her sister Marian Kieffer of Bernardsville, New Jersey; and an extended family of loving nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Thomas J. Fahey, her parents, Carmela and Joseph Sassi and a brother, Horace J. Sassi.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, New Jersey 07069. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 10 AM at the Blessed Sacrament, Church, 1890 Washington Valley Road, Martinsville, New Jersey 08836.
