Ruth Beitel, 93, of
North Branford, CT, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2024, at home.
Ruth was born in
Brooklyn, NY to Ike and Anna (Boyarsky) Schneider. She was the youngest of
three, Ira, Elaine, and then Ruth who gave everyone a run for their money. She graduated from
Tilden High School in 1948. She met Bernie at a Jewish singles weekend at a dude ranch in May
1958 and after a whirlwind courtship they married in February 1959. From Forest Hills to
Flushing and then to Merrick where Ruth and Bernie lived for the next 52 years, they raised a
family, welcomed grandchildren, celebrated holidays and special occasions with a large extended
network of family and friends. They traveled the world and enjoyed opera, theatre, and
discovering wonderful restaurants. After spending many dedicated years as a homemaker, she
returned to work as a salesperson and office manager for a lingerie company. Everything she did,
she did with passion, energy, commitment, and excellence.
Ruth was smart and funny, an artful wordsmith, an outstanding cook, and she possessed a keen
sense of style. Her life and those who loved her were enriched by her Yiddishe neshama. She was
a devoted wife, mother, daughter, aunt, grandmother, cousin, and friend.
Ruth is survived by her daughter Karin Beitel, her daughter Suzanne Beitel (James Smith), her
daughter Jennifer Friedman (Alan), and her grandchildren Sydney, Jake, Tess, Dylan, Channing,
and Avery.
She was predeceased by her parents, Anna and Ike Schneider, her siblings, Ira Schneider and
Elaine Pashkin, and her husband, Bernard Beitel.
Funeral services will be held on January 18, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Abraham L. Green & Son
Funeral Home, 88 Beach Road,
Fairfield, CT 06824. Burial will follow at Wellwood Cemetery,
1400 Wellwood Ave. -
West Babylon, NY 11704. Shiva will be observed at the home of Suzanne Beitel
and James Smith, 9 Laurel Road, Westport, CT 06880 on Thursday January 18 from 5:30 p.m. to
8:30p.m. then on Friday January 19 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. For more information and to
