HIGH POINT – Ruth Ellen Lemmons Black, 85, died Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Pennybyrn's Taylor Village Assisted Living.

She was born July 7, 1940, in Burlington and was the daughter of the late William Oscar and Edith Rich Lemmons. Ruth received her bachelor's degree from Elon College and was a retired executive secretary from Burlington Industries, Inc. Following her retirement, she worked as a secretary for First Presbyterian Church in High Point for several years. She was a former member of Christ United Methodist Church and a current member of First United Methodist Church in High Point. She enjoyed traveling, especially trips to North Myrtle Beach with her husband.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, William "Bill" Cordes whom she married on September 17, 1962, and Warner Lewis Black whom she married on October 28, 1989; and a sister, Nancy Elmore.

Ruth is survived by her step-daughter, Sandra "Sandi" Black Holder (Tony) of Greensboro; a brother, William Roger Lemmons of Clemmons; Step-Grandson, AJ Holder (Taylor) of High Point; two nieces, Lisa Cox (Tracey) of Winston-Salem and Laura Williams of Atlantic Beach; and a nephew, Chris Elmore of Charlotte.

There will be a gathering of family and friends to celebrate Ruth's life from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on Saturday, October 4, 2025, in the Life Tribute Center of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.
