Ruth Blackmore, a devoted nurse, educator, and lifelong resident of Henrietta, NY, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025, at the age of 72 after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
Ruth graduated from Rush-Henrietta High School in 1970. Following her calling to care for others, she earned her Registered Nursing degree from Monroe Community College in 1973. Her pursuit of knowledge and excellence in nursing continued with a Bachelor's of Nursing from Alfred University in 1989 and a Master's of Nursing from the University of Phoenix in 2006.
Her career was defined by both service and mentorship. Ruth was a respected member of the teaching faculty at the Isabella Graham Hart School of Nursing at Rochester General Hospital for nearly 20 years, retiring in 2018. She spent her nursing career in the operating room, where her skill, dedication, and compassion left a lasting impression on colleagues and patients alike.
Ruth was an active member of the local and national chapters of the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) and a proud member of the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing. She loved to travel, especially when it meant attending or presenting at professional conferences.
Outside of her profession, Ruth found joy in the little things: she was an avid embroiderer who gifted many with her beautiful handmade birthday, Christmas, and baby blankets. She enjoyed drag races and auto auctions, quiet evenings on the couch with good music or a favorite show, and cheered faithfully for her beloved Buffalo Bills every Sunday.
Ruth was predeceased by her parents, John Fee and Helen Batzold. She is survived by her long-time partner and fiancé, Gary Pirrello, and his sons Andrew (Sarah) and Evan Pirrello; her sisters Marilyn (John) Doser and Barbra (Frank) Laghezza; her nieces Rebecca (Laghezza) Quagliariello and Rachel (Laghezza) Schaefer; and her nephews Galen, Seth, and Josh Doser.
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the caregivers, medical staff, and hospice workers at Highland Hospital for their compassion and support during Ruth's illness and final days.
Ruth touched countless lives through her work, her teaching, and her love. Her legacy will live on in the many she taught, cared for, and inspired. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Family and friends are invited to call on WEDNESDAY, May 28, from 10AM-12PM at Miller Funeral and Cremation Services (3325 Winton Rd S). Her Funeral Service will follow at 12PM in the funeral home's chapel. Interment Ascension Garden Cemetery.
