Ruth Bloomquest Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on May 19, 2009.
BLOOMQUEST, Ruth A., passed away on May 16, 2009, just a week shy of her 86th birthday. Her death follows her husband Arthur's death by three months. She is survived by her two children, Beth and Bruce; her three grandchildren, Stephen, Andrew and Joseph; and her five wonderful great- grandchildren. Ruth was born in Philadelphia in 1923 as Ruth Anne O'Keefe. After loosing her parents at an early age, she struggled through the depression with her inner strength and fierce determination. She remained a tough, stubborn Irish girl to the end. Ruth and Arthur began their married lives together in Northern Virginia in an area called Arna Valley. During that time, they developed friends that would remain strong and true throughout their lives. It is often said that people's lives and legacy can be measured by the number of, and quality of their friends. If this is the case, then Ruth and Arthur were immeasurably large - their lives full with experience and family that all could admire. This world will miss them, and we can only hope that their family will strive to continue their legacies of strength, courage, faith and family. In lieu of flowers, Ruth's family would like to acknowledge the help of Bon Secours Hospice, 8580 Magellan Pkwy., Richmond, Va. 23227. They were a blessing in the final days of both Ruth and Arthur. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, May 20, at Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., Midlothian, Va. 23113, between 5 and 7 p.m. A small family service will commence at 7 p.m. Ruth will be buried on Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Quantico National Cemetery, and will be joined again with Arthur. Online condolences can be made to [email protected].

What a wonderful lady Ruth was. She was a great friend to my mom and me when we worked together at Agriculture. Sadly, my mom passed 10 years ago and we lost touch. I knew that after your dad went, your mom would follow soon after, because they were soul mates. They loved their church at St. John's in McLean, and all who attended loved them. Our prayers go out to you and your family.
