Ruth Ann Brent, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and educator, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
She was born on February 2, 1953, in Starkville, MS to Ann and Lea Brent. After graduating from Greenville High School, Ruth Ann attended Mississippi State College for Women where she was a member of the Gauntlet Social Club. There she met two lifelong friends Madge (Patterson) Young and Gretchen (Fort) Alby. After earning her bachelor's degree from Mississippi State University, she returned to Greenville and began her teaching career. Her lifelong passion for learning led her to a dedicated career in education, serving for many years in the Greenville Public School System and receiving her master's degree from Delta State University. Through her commitment to her students and community, she touched countless lives with her kindness, patience, and unwavering belief in the power and impact of education.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her children Edwin (1980) and Paul (1980).She is survived by her siblings Jesse (Melinda), Collins (Liz), Margaret (Sam), and Belinda (Bill); loving children, John, Stephen (Lindsey), and Ann (Ethan); her cherished grandchildren, Luke, Emily, Sophia, and Eloise; and her adored great-grandchild, Evelyn. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews, and 2 special cousins Jill (George) Stowe and Allison (Parker) McGee who were all born within 9 months of each other. Ruth Ann's legacy of love, strength, and generosity will continue to live on in all who knew her.
Ruth Ann's family would like to extend special thanks and appreciation to her aunt, Betty Jo Boyd, for faithfully caring for Ruth Ann during her long illness.
Memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church where Ruth Ann was a member in Greenville on Friday at 11:00 AM and officiated by the Rev Paul King. Visitation will be held in the church parlor at 10:00 AM. Arrangements by Mortimer Funeral Home in Greenville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Ruth Ann will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her warmth, grace, and devotion to family and education.
