Ruth Ellen Cogbill, age 99 of Joplin, passed away on October 6, 2025 at Joplin Gardens. She was born on November 14, 1925 to Russell H. and Lena Seward. Ruth was a homemaker who did not shy away from the responsibility of caring for her family. Throughout her life, she was always there to care for her family as her mother had passed away at a young age. She gave care and attention for her siblings (she was the eldest of nine), all while raising her own children.
Ruth was a good mom, tidy and particular. If there were chores to be done, those were finished before the kids could play outside. In their life they had many animals around the house, including a pet baby pig. To summarize her life, she had a servants heart and her commitment to her family was unmatched.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and six of her siblings: Charlie Seward, Kenneth Seward, Jack Seward, Shirley Kellogg, Charlotte Jones, and Bill Seward. She is survived by her children David L. Cogbill of Wheatland, Gwendolyn Wallace of Oronogo, and Marsha (Stephen) Robinson of Lawrence, KS; along with her brothers John Seward, Ron Seward and Rick Seward.
A graveside service was held at 3pm on Wednesday, October 8th at the Jesse Osborne Memorial Cemetery in Joplin with Chaplain Nathan Dawson officiating.
Arrangements were under the personal care and direction of Simpson Funeral Home of Webb City.
