Ruth Marie (Johnson Cornett) Dohse was born on April 20, 1925 to Levi and Olive (Dustin) Johnson in
Burlington, Wyoming. She was the 7th of 11 children, raised in
Burlington, Wyoming and attended school there through 11th grade. Ruth graduated from Ogden High School in Ogden, Utah in 1943.
Ruth trained as a telegrapher and worked for Western Union in Santa Clara, California; it was here that she met Thomas F. Cornett. They were married in Covington, Kentucky on October 26, 1944. They lived in Cincinnati, Ohio where their first son, Thomas J. was born. While there Ruth worked as a server at the Netherland Plaza Hotel and for Brown C. Gary at the Massenet Room. They moved back and forth between Wyoming and Cincinnati twice before settling in Greybull, Wyoming. This is where their son David Jay was born. The family then moved to Laurel, Montana and stayed there for 11 years; it was here that their son Michael James was added to the family. While living in Montana, Ruth worked for the Yellowstone Country Club and the Elmo Club in Billings. They moved to
Cody, Wyoming in 1962 and later divorced in 1964.
In Cody, Ruth worked at the Four Winds Supper Club, then managed the Green Gables Restaurant. Ruth met Robert E. Dohse and they married in 1967. Bob, an avid Big Horn Sheep hunter, and Ruth went on many hunting adventures. One big adventure she had was taking a trip around the world with Hilda Maiden, while Bob and Bim Maiden hunted in Iran. They were the last two U.S. hunters allowed in that country. Together, Bob and Ruth built and ran many businesses in the Cody area including The Green Gables, Eagle Valley, Wapiti Valley Inn, Irma Hotel and they YH Ranch on the Greybull River near
Burlington, Wyoming.
Ruth will long be remembered for her energy and hospitality. She was an excellent cook and loved to entertain friends and family. She had a sharp wit and gave mostly good advice. She was a very positive person. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus of Latter-day Saints, a charter member of Soroptimists, a lifetime member of the V.F.W, and a member of and past Matron of Eastern Star.
Ruth was proceeded in death by her parents, most of her siblings, both husbands, son David, and step-daughter Leslie Dohse-Brown.
She is survived by sons Tom (Margo) Cornett and Mike Cornett, brother Bernard Johnson, sister Laura DePriest, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and good friends.
Services will be held at 10AM on Monday December 29, 2025 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; located at 1719 Wyoming Avenue
