Ruth Dorsty Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by White Funeral Home - Burnsville on Oct. 14, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Ruth passed away at home after a tough battle with pancreatic cancer.

Predeceased by her parents Gertrude and Werner Jaeggli, sister-in-law Rosemarie Dorsty, and best friend Donna Lagueras.

Ruth is survived by husband of forty years Ken Dorsty, sons Martin and Kyle (Christine) and granddaughter Emmeline. Brother Martin Jaeggli (Chris), brother-in-law Richard Dorsty (Rosemarie), sister-in-law Cindy Awan (Farhat). Many nieces and nephews to whom she was a beloved and caring aunt, Allison Arbeiter (Will) and their children Freddy, Harrison and Miles, Richie Dorsty, Zain Awan, Nicole and Caitlin Jaeggli, and Matt and Casey Lagueras. Cousins and relatives in her homeland of Switzerland. Many cherished friends including Lori Ferrara with whom she shared fifty years of friendship and Lisa Stager who became as much a family member as she was a coworker and friend.

Raised in West Hempstead, New York, graduate of West Hempstead high school class of 1978, long-time resident of Burnsville, Minnesota.

Ruth was known and loved for her kindness and generosity as well as her tirelessly hard-working nature as she provided in countless ways for those around her. Ruth acted as a friend and relative to all, and was appreciated for bringing her loved ones together and ensuring that everyone was taken care of - at work, home, and beyond.

Ruth was an integral and cherished member of her workplace at Northwest and Delta Airlines. Beginning her career in 1985, Ruth worked forty years with the company, through which she met many of her best friends and was able to travel around the world. Ruth's coworkers deeply valued her as a team member and a friend; she held a wealth of knowledge and experience as well as an unwavering willingness to step up to help those around her, both employees and passengers alike. Additionally, Ruth had spent many active years in the IAM union through which she served as an organizer, mentor, and advocate as a general chair.

Ruth was proud of her Swiss heritage, from where her parents immigrated and to which she returned often during childhood, travelling as an unaccompanied minor to spend many summers with her cousin Doris Friedrich and other Swiss relatives. During adulthood, Ruth maintained ties with her culture through game nights with her parents in New York, her Swiss cooking, and using her knowledge of the language for interpreting and translating.

Ruth loved spending vacations and holidays with her friends and family members, often incorporating a casino along the way. She also enjoyed playing recreational softball when she was younger, and of course, sharing her delicious cooking with others.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday October 18, 2025 from 2-5 PM at the White Funeral Home, 12804 Nicollet Ave S., Burnsville, MN 55337 (952-894-5080).
