Ruth Doskocil Obituary

Ruth LaNell (Lorenz) Doskocil Ruth LaNell Lorenz Doskocil was born November 4, 1952, to Leon and Hilda Schmidt Lorenz in Rosebud, Tx, and passed away to her eternal home on April 21, 2025 after a short illness, with her loved ones by her side.

Ruth grew up in the community of Barclay and graduated from Rosebud- Lott High School in 1971.

Ruth met her high school sweetheart Larry at a dance in Westphalia, and after getting Larry to dance, and dating for a time, they were married on May 26, 1974. From that day forward they spent the next 51 years walking side by side. They spent the early years working together in the Doskocil family cotton gin while also starting their Land Conservation business which they continued to operate and grow over her entire life. They did all that while raising their four lively children. Life could be busy, but they did it all together and were the truest example of partners.

She was a longtime member of The Church of the Visitation Catholic Church in Westphalia, TX and Ruth had the heart of a servant. Whether she was serving as a county election judge, working at school fairs and events for her children, serving on the altar society as well as an officer, or cooking at as many church functions as needed, she knew what it meant to be the hands and feet of Jesus. She was most herself when she was serving others, especially her family.

She was an avid vegetable gardener, and it brought her great joy to share her delicious, canned goods from that garden with family and friends. Ruth showed her love through her cooking and has blessed so many with her beautiful dishes. She loved us all, so well.

She was a part of the original Bunko group of Westphalia since day one and looked forward to playing each month. Her favorite part was hosting the Christmas month and making her coveted Santa cookies.

Without a doubt her proudest accomplishments were her four children that she and Larry raised together. Together they made sure their children understood the value of hard work and the importance of kindness, and serving others. Her grandchildren only enhanced that pride, and she treasured every moment she was able to spend with them. Her family was her life's work, and the legacy she has in them made her so proud.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years Larry Doskocil, her four children; Paul Doskocil and wife Jessica of Troy, Colleen Doskocil of Temple, Laura Doskocil Riley and her husband Adam of Bryan, and Joseph Doskocil of Westphalia, 6 Grandchildren; Collin Doskocil, Brenden Doskocil, Makinley Doskocil, Ashlynne Riley, Austin Riley and Nathan Riley, Brother; Leslie Lorenz and wife Nancy.

Memorials may be made to the Church of the Visitation Altar Society or to the charity of your choice.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of the Visitation in Westphalia. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2025 at Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Rosebud. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.

The family thanks you for your continued prayers. While Ruth will be missed dearly, we will continue to share wonderful memories of her, special recipes she passed down and celebrate her daily by maintaining her beautiful vegetable garden as she taught us so well to do.
