Fairport - Ruth L. Finn, "Aunt Ruth", age 99, passed away peacefully, on August 19, 2025. Ruth is survived by those two special girls, Marianna Jolo and Julia Anderlee De Sylor; her greatest admirers, niece and nephew; Darla and Jack Bement; many special people Ruth called family and friends; and her feline child, Teddy. Ruth was predeceased by two husbands, Robert Hamilton and Lou Finn.

Ruth was born March 19, 1926, grew up in Honeoye and later, moved to Detroit, Michigan as a young woman. She traveled to different cities along the east coast as a relief manager for a large restaurant chain. Later, Ruth opened and ran her cigar store in the lobby of a hotel. She ended her working career while operating a switchboard and receptionist at Wayne State College in Michigan. Although Ruth never had children, she was a natural. Ruth then began taking care of two special little girls and was mutually considered their U.S. grandmother.

Ruth had a passion for animals. She was always donating a few dollars to the ASPCA in hopes to feed those who were hungry. When Ruth moved back to New York, at 93 years old, she took on a companion cat. She used to call him her toddler, Teddy, and tell everyone that he was a good little eater. Thus her Teddy weighs 25 pounds now. Teddy brought much comfort to Ruth. Even near the end, she still imagined he was sleeping on the end of her bed every night. Her love for animals also made her the best partner in crime! Riding for hours to help bring home a surprise puppy to an unsuspecting Jack.

Ruth was a beautiful and inspirational woman. You felt pure happiness whenever she was near. She was an honest friend, counselor and listener. Ruth never judged and always found the best in people. Throughout her life, Ruth found strength in her faith in God. Although she was looking forward to turning 100, we know she is blessed in the arms of God.

Life itself is a privilege, but to live life to the fullest is a choice.

A celebration of life and burial will be held at a later date and time to be announced. Memorial contributions may be made to Happy Tails Animal Shelter, 2976 Co. Rd. 48, Canandaigua, NY 14424. Arrangements are by Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc., Canandaigua. Condolences may be offered at www.johnsonkennedy.com.
