Ruth Edna Fowler

On Saturday, June 11, 2022 Ruth Edna Fowler, age 82, of McCandless Twp., a loving wife, mother, grandmother (Gibby/Nanny), aunt to many nieces & nephews, and al loving friend to many, finally found peace after a 13 month battle with cancer. At the time of her passing, Ruth was surrounded by her loving family. She was the oldest of two children by the late Fred and Edna Sebastian. She was predeceased by her brother, Frederick Ronald (Ronnie) Sebastian, his wife Betsy (Anderson) Sebastian, and her grandson Joshua Patrick Travis. She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas of 57 years and their children, Terri (Semsi) Yilmaz, Kim (Mike) Travis, and Patti Fowler. She was the "Gibby" of Evrim and Aleyna Yilmaz, "Nanny" of Haley and Jason Travis and Hannah and Sarah Berger.
Ruth was most noted for her family daycare business that ran for 21+ years from her home and the number of volunteer hours at her local Catholic Churches. The children that are now adults in this area will always remember "Nan". Her husband always called her the "General" because of her total organization, to be able to watch up to 10 children for the full day. Ruth's volunteer work included 24 years of hosting the monthly donut Sunday at St. Peter's and helped many people join the church through the R.C.I.A. program. At St. Mary's of the Assumption Parish on Middle Road, Ruth sold gift cards at the back of the church once a month for 17 years. When her granddaughter started kindergarten at St. Sebastian's, Ruth moved on to the cafeteria to volunteer for 9 years. Her love for the children was recognized and she became a part of the permanent staff and retired on her 80th birthday. Her love for all children, including her grandchildren, was always a part of her life. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and her hugs. She will be greatly missed.
Friends will be received Tuesday, June 14, 2022 6-8 p.m. & Wednesday, June 15, 2022 1-4 & 6-8 p.m. at Simons Funeral Home, Inc., 7720 Perry Hwy, Pgh, PA 15237. Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at 10 a.m. in St. Sebastian Church. Burial will follow in Christ Our Redeemer, North Side Catholic Cemetery.
