Ruth Lewis Hilton, daughter of the late Julius and Lucy Davis Lewis, was born November 3, 1935, in Williamsburg County, South Carolina. She passed away on December 29, gaining her golden wings. Ruth was affectionately called "Mama" or "Mama Ruth" by family and friends and touched many lives.
Ruth was a devoted, God-fearing woman who worshipped daily and leaned on her faith. She accepted Christ early and cherished being a soldier in the Lord's Army. Ruth was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church for 50 years under the leadership of Pastor Kennedy D. Hampton, Sr., before moving her membership to Christian Union Full Gospel Outreach Ministries under the leadership of Apostle Eunice E. Tucker.
Ruth was a strong, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She welcomed everyone at her table, often asking, "Did you eat?" or saying, "Your name is in the pot!" Her presence made her love clear without many words.
Ruth was employed by Pratt & Whitney for 28 years before retiring in 1994. She filled her free time cooking and baking for her family and friends. Ruth got joy singing in the gospel choir, where she belted out Dottie Peoples' " Oh What a Time."
Ruth leaves behind a legacy of love that will be cherished always by her children, Cynthia (Curtis) Boyd of
Hamden, CT; Debra H. Wallace of
Hemingway, SC, and Derrell (Avis) Hilton of Ennis, Texas.
