Ruth Hilton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McClam Funeral Home - New Haven on Jan. 6, 2026.
Ruth Lewis Hilton, daughter of the late Julius and Lucy Davis Lewis, was born November 3, 1935, in Williamsburg County, South Carolina. She passed away on December 29, gaining her golden wings. Ruth was affectionately called "Mama" or "Mama Ruth" by family and friends and touched many lives.

Ruth was a devoted, God-fearing woman who worshipped daily and leaned on her faith. She accepted Christ early and cherished being a soldier in the Lord's Army. Ruth was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church for 50 years under the leadership of Pastor Kennedy D. Hampton, Sr., before moving her membership to Christian Union Full Gospel Outreach Ministries under the leadership of Apostle Eunice E. Tucker.

Ruth was a strong, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She welcomed everyone at her table, often asking, "Did you eat?" or saying, "Your name is in the pot!" Her presence made her love clear without many words.

Ruth was employed by Pratt & Whitney for 28 years before retiring in 1994. She filled her free time cooking and baking for her family and friends. Ruth got joy singing in the gospel choir, where she belted out Dottie Peoples' " Oh What a Time."

Ruth leaves behind a legacy of love that will be cherished always by her children, Cynthia (Curtis) Boyd of Hamden, CT; Debra H. Wallace of Hemingway, SC, and Derrell (Avis) Hilton of Ennis, Texas. She is also remembered by her 11 grandchildren, Lakeah Boyd, Antwaine Carter, Xavier Johnson, Candra Boyd, Lakendra (Michael) Garrett, Laveshia Hilton, Tanasha Hilton, Mervin Williams III, LaQuardia Williams, Chonston Williams, Tamika Henley, her 9 great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandchild. Additionally, Ruth is remembered and cherished by her Uncle EJ (Ida Mae) Davis, brothers-in-law Mack Hanna, Elijah Session, nephews Marion (Stephaine) Hanna, Stacy (Beky) Hanna, John Franklin Hilton, Lindell Sessions Jr., Derek Sessions Jr., Korey Hanna, Justice Hanna, Marvin (Lorna) Haynes, nieces Altheria Hilton, Sheila (Fred) Jones, Alicia Hilton Stewart, Shana (Jeremy) Dunn, and Trinity Hanna. Loving cousins, William (Sue) Rogers, Louetha Williams, Jessie Lee Brown, Bettie Lewis-Farrington. Special God Children Melissa (Anthony) Hargget, Tonya (Jerry) Scott, Sonja (Sam) Byers, Charlene (Ricky) Rivers, Ida (Bernard) Greene, Jennette Brown, special God grandchildren Chelsea Murray, Caleb (Nesha) Murray, Khyann Taylor, Jelisa Burton, and her Cracker Barrel Partner in Crime, Elouise Burton.

Her death is preceded by her husband, Ollie Hilton; son, Duane Hilton; parents, Julius and Lucy Davis Lewis; and sisters, Arnetha L. Hanna and Tena Estell Session, as well as her sister-in-law/ best friend, Ruthner Hilton.
