Ruth Gaddy Houdashelt, age 97, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Aspire of West Alabama.
She was born on July 12, 1927, in the Bethany Community of Tuscaloosa County, Alabama to Tom and Alla Gaddy.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Alla; sisters, Mary Arno and Virgina Jendris; brothers, Tommy Gaddy and Joe Gaddy; daughter Linda Jones; and grandsons, Jim Tibbs, Scott Junkin, and Travis Taylor.
A beloved mother and grandmother, she is survived by her children: Betty Tibbs (Jimmy), Gary Taylor (Sue), David Taylor (Anne), Jane Cameron (Joe), and Joyce Taylor. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
During her working career, she was an LPN at Druid City Hospital. In her free time, she was an avid player of bingo and card games.
Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Aspire of West Alabama, Dr. Ross Vaughn, and Dr. Stephen Browne.
Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery in Coker with Bro. Tim Fields officiating and Magnolia Chapel North directing.
The family requests no flowers.
