Ruth Marie Houston, 82, passed on April 24, 2024. She was born January 24, 1942 in Hudson Valley, Newburgh, New York to the late August DeBates, Sr. and Dora Mae (Coy) DeBates.
Ruth moved to Florida two years ago from New Windsor, New York where she attended Encounter Church 647 Station Rd, Rock Tavern, NY. Ruth was employed in retail at Sears for many years. She loved animals and was a sponsor and was a caring volunteer for the ASPC. She also enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, nature, and attending outdoor concerts. Ruth was an avid learner and continuously pursued higher education.
Left to cherish her memory are the children she adored; Arthur "David" Smith, Jr., his wife Julie A.(Hannigan) Smith; Debra Lee Smith; Diane Marie Buyarski, her husband Michael; dear sisters Ella Dollaway, Carol Hansen, Betty Jo Haworth; husband Randall Crosby Houston and several aunts and cousins whom she cherished; loving grandchildren Joanna Jinks, her husband David; Linsay Rowe, her husband Robert; Laura Carnevale and Timothy Golightly Sr.; Aimee Tavares, her husband Timothy; Amber Smith and Steven Melendez and Ariel Buyarski; loving great grandchildren; Olivia Tavares, Natalie Tavares, Abigail Melendez, Elena Melendez, Daniel Jinks, Dominic Jinks, Giacomina Jinks, Zachary Heppding, Alana Heppding, TJ Golightly, Luke Golightly.
In addition to her parents, Ruth is predeceased by her sisters Mary McKnight, Barbara Carr and Patricia DeBates; and brothers Charlie DeBates and August DeBates, Jr.
There will be a Celebration of Ruth's Life service to be held in Modena, New York.
