Ruth Ann Hoyle (1948-2025)

If you knew her, she has probably given you at least one card for an important event in your life. She believed in the power of her pen and a well chosen card to help celebrate good news and provide comfort in hard times. Ruth Ann Hoyle, 77 of Oscoda, Michigan died in Muskegon, Michigan on September 11, 2025.

Ruth was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Nellie Hedberg and George Hedberg. She grew up in the Muskegon area graduating from Orchard View High School and then earning an associate's degree from Muskegon Community College, a bachelor's degree at Northern Michigan University (NMU) and a masters degree in psychology from Central Michigan University.

Ruth met Jack, her husband of almost 55 years, at NMU. They married in October 1970 and, two years later, settled in Oscoda, where they built a life together there for nearly fifty years.

Ruth and Jack had one daughter, Heather, and two granddaughters, Alex and Adeline. Spending time in California spoiling her grandchildren in all the best ways was one of her favorite things to do.

Ruth was an active member of the Oscoda United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Over the years she volunteered as a Sunday school teacher, and a long time member of the funeral luncheon committee. She also served as the secretary for FISH inc., a local charity for those in need, for about 15 years. She spent many years as a member of the local Lioness Club serving in several roles including President and Tail Twister.

Ruth was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles and other word games. She enjoyed keeping up with friends and family with visits, letters and cards. She and Jack took many trips back to the Upper Peninsula to visit Marquette and NMU over the years and enjoyed road trips to New England. She was funny, quick witted, eager to help friends and family, and always willing to listen.

Ruth is survived by her husband Jack Hoyle, her daughter Heather (Shawn) Hoyle, granddaughters Alex and Adeline Ambwani, sisters Karen McGrane, Kris (Larry) Godbold, Jane Hedberg, brother Kevin Hedberg, sister-in-law Susan (Douglas) Mellema, as well as her nieces, nephews and family and friends. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Nellie Hedberg and George Hedberg, and brothers-in-law Bill McGrane and Scott Barnhardt.

Ruth supported many charitable organizations over the years and the family suggests that any memorial donations in remembrance of her be made to the Oscoda United Methodist Church or to a cause important to you.

A memorial service will be held in Oscoda at the United Methodist Church on Friday, October 24, 2025. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am.
