Obituary of Ruth Evelyn McCaherty
Ruth McCaherty, 97 of Carlinville, IL, formerly of Palmyra, IL, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Carlinville Area Hospital in Carlinville, IL.
Ruth was born on March 6, 1927, in Palmyra, IL, a daughter of Luther and Lois (Coots) Smith.
Ruth graduated from Palmyra High School with the class of 1945.
She married John L. "Tink" McCaherty on June 6, 1945, in Palmyra, IL.
Ruth loved spending time with family and friends, music of any kind, especially playing piano for sing-alongs, and quilting. She always had a cup of coffee for anyone that wanted to stop by or fried chicken and banana pie if you could stay for supper. She could make conversation with anyone and shared her sharp wit with everyone she met.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son, Richard Dayle McCaherty, and 5 brothers and sisters.
Graveside Services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Palmyra, IL.
A Celebration of Life luncheon will be served at Palmyra Municipal Building immediately following.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Sandra Sue (Darrol) Mansfield of Carlinville, IL, son, Clyde L. (Cherlynn) McCaherty of Springfield, IL, daughter, Jeanne McCaherty of Long Lake, MN, 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Shriner's Children Hospital.
