Ruth Hayes McCullough, 90, of Elberton, passed away on Friday, June 27, 2025, at PruittHealth at Athens Heritage.
Ruth was born in Anderson, SC on September 14, 1934, daughter of the late Effie Hayes Brown and the late Evoid Brown. A hard worker, Ruth worked most of her life in the granite industry. She was among the first female sandblasters in the industry, and retired from Keystone Memorials after 38 years of service in the rubber cutting department.
A member of Deep Creek Baptist Church, Ruth loved the Lord with all of her heart. She was an excellent cook and seamstress, often making many of her children’s clothes and always willing to help with alterations. She selflessly put the needs of others above her own and took pride in taking care of her family.
Affectionately known as “Granny” or “Memama”, she is survived by her children: David (Sheila) McCullough of Hartwell, Debra Branyon of Pelzer, Kim McCullough of Elberton, and Missy McCullough Moon of Elberton; grandchildren: Jeff (Angie) McCullough, Kevin (Lori) McCullough, Candice Armstrong, Doug (Hannah) Coker, Kayla (David) Black, and Celeste (Kyle Dillinder) Moon; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Dianne (Doug) Tucker of Greenwood, SC; nieces: Kerri (JD) Powell and Anna Marie (Richard) Juarez; and a host of great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Cindy McCullough; grandson, Adam Branyon; and former husband and father of her children, Kenneth McCullough.
The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends on Tuesday, July 1, from 1:00-1:45p.m. at Berry Funeral Home. Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Tim Adams, will follow at 2:00p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in the Rock Branch Baptist Church cemetery.
Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in her memory to Salvation Army or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
