Ruth L. McKay, age 97, of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2024 at Danbury Senior Living.
Ruth was born August 7, 1927 in Bedford, OH to the late Earl and Dorothy (Chamberlin) Snyder.
Ruth attended Kent Roosevelt High School and graduated in 1946. She received her BS in Education in 1966 from KSU. She also received her Masters of Education from KSU in 1979. Her daughter, Dorothy, earned her Masters of Education from KSU at the same time, and they graduated together. She taught 34 years for Kent City Schools. She taught 2nd and 3rd grades at Brady Lake Elementary and Holden Elementary Schools. She retired in 1992.
She was a member of the Lake Brady United Methodist Church, God’s Girls on Wheels, the Quilter’s Club, United Methodist Women, and Church Women United. She also belonged to Retired Teachers of Portage County.
She loved to read, travel and sing in the church choir. She also enjoyed bowling in the Teacher’s Bowling League. She enjoyed her summers at Lakeside, loved animals, and working in her yard, planting iris. She adored her grandchildren, and great grandchildren and regularly attended their activities. She will be missed by all.
She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy (William) Murphy of Tallmadge, OH; granddaughters, Gwen (Shawn) Jones of Tallmadge, OH, Stephanie “Stephie” Murphy of Denver, NC; great-grandchildren, Olivia Jones, and Gabe Jones of Tallmadge, OH. She was preceded in death by her spouse, Donald McKay; parents, Earl, Dorothy Snyder; stepmother, Glenna Snyder; Brothers, Walter and Richard Snyder.
Calling hours will be held 10:30 AM - 12:15 PM on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home, 628 W. Main St. Kent, Ohio 44240. Memorial Service will then be held at 12:30 PM with Frank Zugaro officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Portage County Animal Protective League (http://www.portageapl.org).
